About the festival

The DaKINO International Film Festival was invented by Dan Chișu in 1991, when there were no other film festivals or many cultural happenings taking place in Romania.

DaKINO is not only the first film festival in Romania, but also one of the oldest short film festivals in Eastern Europe, thus offering Romanian directors like Cristian Mungiu, Radu Muntean, Titus Muntean, Tudor Giurgiu, Cristi Puiu, Hanno Hoffer, Florin Șerban, Cristian Nemescu, Corneliu Porumboiu, Marian Crișan, Adrian Sitaru the opportunity to meet producers, filmmakers and film lovers from all over the world, and to show their films - often times graduation projects - to the festival audience.

Cineastes such as Charlotte Rampling, Cristopher Lambert, Giulliano Gemma, Marisa Berenson, Gaspar Noe, Elina Lowensohn, Vittorio Taviani, Costa-Gavras, Anthony Minghella, Hiam Abbass, Bruno Coppola, Emir Kusturica have been guests of honor of the DaKINO IFF over its 25 past editions.

DaKINO got the attention of the international press and is mentioned in some of the most important festival guides, such as Le Carrefour de Festivals and Variety Guide to Film Festivals.
